Preventing Viruses
There are a couple simple things that you can do to prevent virus infections.
- It is absolutely imperative that you not only install the
VirusScan software but use it and keep it up to date.
- Scan
your drives on a regular basis – weekly
is good but daily is not out of reason
- Keep you virus definitions up to date using
the Update Now… option
- Most virus infections come from one of two sources – shared
files or email.
- If you are working with a colleague
or friend and you are sharing files by swapping a disk,
scan the disk before you
open
any
file
on it.
- If you receive an email that
has a file attached to it DO NOT open it unless
you know the sender
and…
a. you are expecting the attached file
or
b. they clearly explain the contents
of the attachment.
NOTE: as a rule, if you don’t know what the
file is DON’T
open it,
instead delete the message as soon as possible.
